On October 04th, Scarlett made a stop at the 57th New York Fiilm Festival for her new movie Marriage Story with co-stars Adam Drive, Laura Dern and director Noah Baumbach, Thr day began with a press conference at the at Walter Reade Theater but unfortunately Scarlett was a little late to it thanks to New York traffic but she did make it in the end for more of it. I have added to the gallery photos from it and you can watch the full video below.

The Marriage Story press conference at the 57th New York Fiilm Festival featured Noah Baumbach, Scarlett Johansson, Adam Driver, Laura Dern, Ray Liotta, Alan Alda, and producer David Heyman. They discuss the influences on the film–from Hitchcock to Persona–Robbie Ryan’s cinematography, the duality of marriage, the importance of adding humor to the narrative, the different personalities of the lawyers, and much more. Moderated by Florence Almozini, NYFF selection committee member and Associate Director of Programming at Film at Lincoln Center.

57th New York Film Festival is presented by Film at Lincoln Center from Friday, September 27 – Sunday, October 13. See ticket info, the schedule, and more: https://filmlinc.org/nyff

Noah Baumbach’s new film is about the rapid tangling and gradual untangling of impetuosity, resentment, and abiding love between a married couple negotiating their divorce and the custody of their son. Adam Driver is Charlie, a 100-percent New York experimental theater director; Scarlett Johansson is Nicole, his principal actress and soon-to-be L.A.-based ex-wife. Their “amicable” breakup devolves, one painful rash response and hostile counter-response at a time, into a legal battlefield, led on Nicole’s side by Laura Dern and on Charlie’s side by nice Alan Alda and not-so-nice Ray Liotta. What is so remarkable about Marriage Story is its frank understanding of the emotional fluctuations between Charlie and Nicole: they are both short-sighted, both occasionally petty, both vindictive, and both loving. The film is as harrowing as it is hilarious as it is deeply moving. With Merritt Wever and Julie Hagerty as Nicole’s sister and mom, and Azhy Robertson as their beloved son, Henry. A Netflix release.

A centerpiece of New York culture since 1963, the New York Film Festival will introduce the most essential new cinematic works from around the world to U.S. audiences in its Main Slate. NYFF will also continue to feature a variety of titles in different sections and sidebars, including Spotlight on Documentary, newly rejuvenated classics in Restorations and Revivals, a diverse selection of international and locally made Shorts, the ever-expanding experimental showcase Projections, and the immersive storytelling experiences of the cutting-edge Convergence. Additionally, there will be an exciting lineup of special events, free filmmaker talks and panel discussions, and the latest editions of our annual Industry and Critic Academies.

Jojo Rabbit

thejc – The UK Jewish Film Festival has announced a prestigious line-up for 2019, including the Oscar-tipped JoJo Rabbit starring Scarlett Johansson and UK premiers of spy drama The Operative, starring Diane Kruger and Martin Freeman, and comedy My Polish Honeymoon.

The festival will run from November 6-21 at 15 cinemas across London. In addition, festival highlights will be shown in 20 towns and cities across England, Scotland and Wales, running until December 12.

The programme, which features 96 films and discussions with directors, actors, politicians and journalists, is the largest of its kind in the world. It includes eight world premieres, one European premiere, 40 UK premieres, and films from 24 countries, including 23 films from the UK.

The opening night gala will host a showing of My Polish Honeymoon, a debut feature from French director Élise Otzenberger. The comedy follows a recently-married Parisian couple as they head off on a belated honeymoon to Poland, and becomes a story about rediscovering roots and being Jewish today.

The Oscar-tipped Jojo Rabbit, which recently won the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival, will be the centrepiece of the closing night gala. Written and directed by Taika Waititi (Jewish on his mother’s side; his father is Maori), this Second World War satire follows Jojo, a lonely German boy whose imaginary friend is an idiotic Adolf Hitler. Jojo’s world view is turned upside down when he discovers his single mother (Scarlett Johansson) is hiding a young Jewish girl in their attic.

The centrepiece gala will see the UK premiere of The Operative, directed by Yuval Adler and starring Diane Kruger and Martin Freeman. British citizen Rachel is a rootless polyglot, but with a deep love for Israel – traits that make her an ideal Mossad agent. Recruited by a Berlin-based British Jew, she is sent to Tehran to spy on a businessman. Based on the Israeli novel? The English Teacher,?The Operative?asks whether love for a man is more important than service to your nation.

The documentary gala hosts the world premiere of The Human Factor, followed by a Q&A with the film’s director, Dror Moreh (The Gatekeepers), and producer Teddy Leifer (Oscar nominee for The Invisible War, Oscar winner for Icarus). With the end of the Cold War and America becoming a sole global superpower, the 1990s brought the promise of a new world order – and hopes for a comprehensive peace between Israel and two of its bitterest enemies, the Palestinians and Syria. Featuring key players, the documentary looks back at a decade which started with the signing of the Oslo Accords and ended with a bitter sense of disillusionment, leading to the Second Intifada.

Michael Etherton, Chief Executive of UK Jewish Film, said: “We are the UK’s only film festival dedicated to telling stories about Jewish life and experience, and the majority of our UK and international films would not otherwise make it to cinemas or streaming services.

“At a time of increasing fears about the rise of racism, including antisemitism, the UK Jewish Film Festival has a crucial role to play in making sure that Jewish life and culture is being adequately represented on our cinema screens.

“That’s why this year, with the support of the BFI Audience Fund, we are unrolling an extensive and important nationwide tour. From Inverness to Brighton and Bangor to Norwich, we will reveal wonderful cinematic snapshots of Jewish life to diverse audiences who may not otherwise have any interaction with Jewish culture.”

We caught up with writer and director Taika Waititi and the cast of Jojo Rabbit, including Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell and Roman Griffin Davis, at the Toronto International Film Festival. This edgy satire about a boy whose imaginary friend is Hitler is tough to summarize — Waititi describes his distinctive style as “like life” which is always a mixture of comedy and drama. Johansson admits it’s a movie you need to experience for yourself.

The Hollywood Reporter – With Noah Baumbach’s ‘Marriage Story’ and Taika Waititi’s ‘Jojo Rabbit’, her Avengers spinoff ‘Black Widow’ and the mantle of the world’s highest-grossing actress, Johansson isn’t afraid to say how she really feels about Disney and her plans to direct.

When Scarlett Johansson met writer-director Noah Baumbach for lunch in 2016 to talk about a role, she was in the midst of a private ordeal, divorcing her second husband, Frenchman Romain Dauriac. Baumbach, who didn’t know about Johansson’s pending split, was eager to discuss an unusually exposing film he was writing. The tragicomic story would explore terrain Baumbach encountered while ending his marriage to actress Jennifer Jason Leigh — the hideous fights, the mercenary lawyers, the wistful moments of wondering whether things could be different.

Before Baumbach launched into his pitch about why he thought Johansson would be perfect for the role opposite Adam Driver, the actress shared what was going on in her marriage. “It totally caught me off guard,” Baumbach says. “I was like, ‘Well, you’re going to either hate this idea or love it. This may be exactly not the headspace you want to be putting yourself in, or maybe it will be healing.’ ” The movie, Marriage Story, turned out to be the latter. “We talked a lot about the actual experience of divorce because I was in the middle of the process,” Johansson says. “We talked about becoming a parent, and our parents. The expectation that comes with being in any kind of a relationship, and the disappointment that can come with that expectation.”

Johansson, 34, is recounting this story in early August on the set of Marvel’s Black Widow outside London, where she has been living with Rose, her 5-year-old daughter with Dauriac, for five months. Fresh from a morning of fight training, she arrives for an interview in a wood-paneled conference room at Pinewood Studios wearing an Avengers T-shirt, her hair in a messy bun, a gold chain with Rose’s name on her throat. It’s a hectic time for the actress: This fall, Johansson, who has never been nominated for an Oscar despite critically acclaimed performances in such movies as Lost in Translation and Match Point, stars in two likely awards contenders, Marriage Story for Netflix and Taika Waititi’s Jojo Rabbit, for Fox Searchlight, both screening at the Toronto Film Festival. When Black Widow opens in May, it will be the first female-fronted extravaganza to kick off the summer box office season. She also is preparing to send Rose to kindergarten in New York City and wed her fiance, Saturday Night Live’s Colin Jost.

In person, the actress is unguarded and assured, even on thorny topics — from actors playing characters of different races (which sparked a fierce debate) to whom she’s backing for president to why she’s standing by Woody Allen. She apologizes that her answer to one question sounds “farty” (pretentious) but never asks for forgiveness for her opinions.
