Thirteen years ago, New York City detective Julie Miller (Johansson) ended the terror reign of satanic serial killer Father Sunday. The case made her a hero, and she has thrown herself into her work ever since. Now a new killer scrawls her name in an altar boy’s blood on the walls of a church crypt, dragging her back into the darkness she believed she had buried with him. Aided by former prison chaplain Father William (Academy Award® nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor), who heard Father Sunday’s final confession, and sharp rookie detective Gina Restrepo (Sasha Calle, The Rip), Detective Miller will discover a filament linking a lineage of serial killers, from H.H. Holmes to the Zodiac, that could corrupt everything, and everyone, she loves with an evil that goes well beyond the mortal.

Apart EP
Out Now On All Streaming Sites & Record Shops
Synopsis: “If Breakup was dealing with an unravelling relationship, Apart is dealing with the aftermath,” he explains. “It acknowledges the array of heavy emotions that come up living separate lives. You’re getting used to the idea of not being with someone who has been a big part of your life. Even after a break up has occurred, the presence of an ex still seems to loom large in one’s mind for a while. There are moments during the day where you wonder, is it really over? Or will there be another chapter in the relationship now that it has evolved? The EP is an attempt to sort through all this and get comfortable with the excitement of new freedoms while facing underlying fears of the unknown road that lies ahead.”

The director of Eleanor the Great and star of Jurassic World Rebirth on being sexualized as a teen, how “we’re being muzzled” by Trump’s tech allies, and more.
“Whatever kind of diner food you’re into is going to be delicious—and also enormous.”
Scarlett Johansson is priming me on what to order at the Ritz Diner, a 60-year-old institution in her Upper East Side neighborhood. She’s just walked in wearing bulky circumaural headphones, a plush turquoise turtleneck, and an old Yankees cap, and we’re sitting in a small booth by a window with the blinds closed. Today may technically still be in the midst of a dreary New York winter, but this buoyant mid-March afternoon—the temperature inching toward 60 degrees, the sun brightly shining—is signaling the beginning of spring. Before ordering a turkey sandwich on rye, Johansson suggests a change in the season will do us all some good: “It’s such a weird time.”

Deadline – I’m hearing that Oscar nominee and Avengers star Scarlett Johansson (Marriage Story) is set to lead true-crime thriller Featherwood, which is one of the hottest new scripts ahead of next week’s EFM market in Berlin.
In a role that has some buyers already speculating awards potential, Johansson will portray Carol Blevins, a heroin addict and “Aryan Princess featherwood” (property of a gang member) who became one of the FBI’s most important informants during an epic, six-year investigation into the murderous, neo-Nazi crime and drug syndicate known as the Aryan Brotherhood Of Texas. Blevins, who lived with the gang, memorized details, pre-empted murders and interrupted robberies, helped convict 13 members of the group. However, her harrowing journey left her with significant physical and mental scars and she lives under constant threat of reprisal by the ABT.
The movie is based on the award-winning, six-part Dallas Morning News article by Pulitzer Prize finalist Scott Farwell.
I gather FilmNation is handling sales on the project, which will be directed by American Honey and Big Little Lies director Andrea Arnold, whose early career is marked by hard-hitting dramas such as Fish Tank and Red Road. Cannes Palme d’Or contender American Honey was BAFTA nominated and the filmmaker is currently in post on Bird starring Barry Keoghan.
Johansson will produce with Jonathan Lia and Keenan Flynn under their These Pictures banner. Script comes from Ned Benson, writer-director on Searchlight’s upcoming movie The Greatest Hits, and a writer on Marvel’s Johansson starrer Black Widow.
This is the latest in what is turning into a veritable bonanza in terms of EFM pre-sale titles. And there are interesting reasons for why that may be the case. More on that next week.
Johansson is in post on Paramount’s Transformers One and Sony and Greg Berlanti’s untitled rom-com with Channing Tatum.
