Trailer

Trivia & Facts

• The theatrical trailer of the movie contained a shot of a group of Boy Scouts discovering the severely decayed remains of a human body (presumably Joanie Shriver’s) in the Everglades. This scene was omitted from the final cut.
• It’s a misconception that Connery turned down the role of Edward Longshanks in Braveheart because he wanted to make this film. His reason was actually quite simply as a very proud Scot he didn’t want to play an English king who was responsible for so much Scottish suffering.
• Hope Lange (Libby Prentiss) is the real life mother of Chris Murray (Detective T. J. Wicox).
• Will Smith was considered for the role of Bobby Earl Ferguson.
• Because Arne Glimcher was one of the most important art dealers and helped power agent and mogul, Michael Ovitz with his art collection, Ovitz returned the favor by getting this movie made for him by committing his client, Sean Connery without his consent. Eventually he got Connery to commit by waving his commission.
• The film stars one Oscar winner: Sean Connery; as well as 8 nominees: Laurence Fishburne, Ned Beatty, Ruby Dee, Ed Harris, Hope Lange, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Sarandon, and Kevin McCarthy
• Final theatrical movie of Hope Lange (Libby Prentiss).
• Ashley Holliday Tavares and Kylie Delre’s debut.
• David Clennon was asked to play a featured role.

Goofs

• During the chase scene as they approach the draw-bridge, both sides of the bridge are raised to 45 degrees. Seconds later, when the car jumps the bridge, the far side is down again.
• When Armstrong (Sean Connery) gets a call from Sullivan (Ed Harris) after the re-trial, he is seen waving to his wife with a pen in his right hand. The next frame shows the cradle of the phone in his right hand and Sullivan asking him if he has a pen and he says yes and switches the phone to his left hand to pick up the pen.
• During scenes in the Everglades an owl is heard and seen. The owl is a barn owl, which does not live in swamps, much less the Everglades, but instead lives in farm areas and vacant buildings.
• We hear a dial tone on Paul Armstrong’s cellular phone.
• During the chase sequence, when the Chevrolet Caprice crosses the open draw bridge, it lands on the other side at a significant downward angle. The car should either be destroyed or rendered virtually inoperative by the impact. The camera immediately cuts to show the car proceeding ahead undamaged.
• Bobby Earl (Blair Underwood) says to Paul Armstrong (Sean Connery): ‘First in your family to attend a university. Magna from Cambridge’. There’s no such thing as a ‘magna’ from the University of Cambridge. They award degrees, which have first, upper second, lower second, and third as classifications. ‘Magna’ is American.
• When Paul Armstrong goes to Tanny Brown’s house and learns that the murdered girl was actually a friend of Brown’s daughter, Tanny Brown comes home and angrily says, “I ought to have you locked up.” However, his mouth is not moving at all when we hear the words.
• When Armstrong is visiting the house of the (dead) parents of Blair Sullivan you can see one of the cameras in the left part of the screen.
