The Scarlett Johansson-headlined remake of Ghost In The Shell will arrive in April 2017.
This one appears to be happening. Disney – which distributes DreamWorks’ live action slate – has scheduled the film for a release of April 14th 2017, reports ERC. Scarlett Johansson is indeed attached to the project. Here’s our original story…
Although she’s yet to get a solo Marvel film of her own, Scarlett Johansson’s already proved she can open an action film by herself – Luc Besson’s completely bonkers sci-fi confection Lucy managed to make more than 10 times its $40m budget at the box office last year.
If the latest reports are correct, Johansson could be about to play a not dissimilar role in another sci-fi action film: DreamWorks’ live-action remake of Ghost In The Shell. The original anime feature, directed by Mamoru Oshii and based on Masamune Shirow’s manga, is a true classic, influencing numerous other writers and directors and spawning a TV series subtitled Stand Alone Complex.
According to Variety, Johansson has agreed to take the lead as Kusanagi, a cybernetic human who, in the original film, went on the trail of a hacker called the Puppet Master. Rupert Sanders, who previously made Snow White And The Huntsman, is set to direct, while screenwriter William Wheeler (The Reluctant Fundamentalist, The Hoax) is in charge of the script.
A project that has been discussed for some time (the last we heard, The Wolf Of Wall Street’s Margot Robbie was in talks to star), Ghost In The Shell may pick up a bit of speed with a star of Johansson’s magnitude attached.

I known there is a lot of hate out there right now for Scarlett getting this roll and I can get were it’s all coming from i can but at the end of the day they want the movie to do well and for that they need a big name and after “Lucy” Scarlett can pull in the money for them and thats all it comes down to “money” for the people making this movie. Most people will go to see it as it has Scarlett in and that is want they want.
