Don’t want to wait for Thanksgiving weekend to see Hitchcock, starring Anthony Hopkins? Well, if you live in or near Hollywood, CA, you can see it November 1st when it kicks off the AFI Fest 2012. Read on for the details.

From the Press Release:
On November 1, 2012, the World Premiere of HITCHCOCK will open the AFI FEST 2012 at Grauman’s historic Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard. The film stars Academy Award® winner Anthony Hopkins as Alfred Hitchcock; Academy Award® winner Helen Mirren as his wife, Alma Reville; Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh; Jessica Biel as Vera Miles; and James D’Arcy as Anthony Perkins.

The film is directed by Sacha Gervasi and also stars Toni Collette, Danny Huston, and Michael Stuhlbarg. From a screenplay by John J. McLaughlin, the film is based on the book Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho by Stephen Rebello. HITCHCOCK, a love story about one of the most influential filmmakers of the last century, Alfred Hitchcock, and his wife and partner, Alma Reville, takes place during the making of the distinguished director’s seminal 1960 movie PSYCHO.

“AFI’s history with Alfred Hitchcock is a proud one, from a Master Seminar at the AFI Conservatory in 1970 to his receiving the AFI Life Achievement Award in 1979,” said Bob Gazzale, President and CEO of the American Film Institute. “We are honored to celebrate his lasting legacy with the World Premiere of HITCHCOCK – a bloody valentine to his creative genius and the inspired woman at his side.”

“Alfred Hitchcock’s signature style has made him one of the most influential directors in the world,” said Jacqueline Lyanga, Director, AFI FEST. “This film pulls back the curtain and takes us behind-the-scenes of his lifelong collaboration with his wife, Alma, during the making of his 1960 masterpiece PSYCHO – it’s the perfect film to welcome our audience of movie-lovers with on opening night.”

For the fourth consecutive year, AFI FEST will continue its unprecedented offer of free tickets to all screenings, but only the Star Patron Package and Marquee Patron Package will provide reserved seating at the World Premiere opening night gala of HITCHCOCK. These and other AFI FEST Patron Packages and Passes – which can include access to sold-out galas and other high-demand films and events – are on sale now at AFI.com. The American Film Institute is a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational and cultural organization, and Patron Packages are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.

Free individual tickets to AFI FEST screenings and galas will be available to AFI members on Wednesday, October 24, in a 24-hour advance window before they become available to the general public on October 25. In addition, AFI members Two Star level and above receive a 10% discount on all Patron Packages and Passes. Information about AFI Membership is available at AFI.com.

Hitchcock will be released worldwide by Fox Searchlight Pictures. Claudia Lewis, President of Production, and David Greenbaum, Senior Vice President of Production, are overseeing the project for Fox Searchlight Pictures. (Source)

She’s a part of the star-studded “Avengers” cast that boasts one of the biggest box office money makers ever to grace the big screen, so it seems fitting to find Scarlett Johansson featured in the July 2012 issue of Total Film magazine.

The 27-year-old actress showed off her gorgeous smile in article beginning shot while chatting with the cinema buff-friendly publication about everything from her black widow character and new role in “Psycho” to her status as a sex symbol as she grows older.

Highlights from Miss Johansson’s interview are as follows.

On how she’d measure up to Black Widow:
“she could definitely kick my a**, that’s for sure. She has to remain lukewarm, in a sense. To keep a distance and not make decisions based on her emotions. I always make decisions based on my emotions. I’m not very practical that way. I think I’m hypersensitive and I think I use it for my job, so there are certainly a lot of differences there.”

On the films that gained her the most fans:
“When I was growing up, I had the core fans of ‘Ghost World’, who were really into that, and the other independent stuff I was doing. And that was cool. Then after ‘Lost In Translation’ it really started…”

On what made her want to play Black widow in the first place:
“I really loved the first ‘Ironman’. It reinvented that genre. I was never a big comic book fan. It was really the that film that I found to be very exciting. And ‘Ironman 2’, it was the first time I’ve ever been in a big blockbuster that did well, so that was nice.”

On being dubbed a sex symbol:
“I never wanted to be a sex symbol. I wanted to be a character actor. Those are the actors I often mostly admire. But I think women that are curvy can be pigeonholed in that bombshell thing. I never think of my characters that way. What can you do about it? As I get older, I think I’m seeing more multifaceted roles. I’m past the ingenue phase, which I’m very thankful for, but I’m happy is over.”

On playing Janet Leigh opposite Anthony Hopkins in ‘Psycho’:
“I’m very excited to play her. There was never really an actor I wanted for portray or do a bio of but I do love Janet Leigh. I’ve always loved her. She was such a good actor and sexy. But it never got in the way of her work. She was spunky and her relationship with Hitchcock was famously one of great admiration and affection between them.”

Rope March 21st, 2012 'Hitchcock And The Making Of Psycho'

Alfred Hitchcock And The Making Of Psycho‘s cast just keeps getting better. The latest member of the impressive rep company is Jessica Biel, playing Vera Miles. She joins Anthony Hopkins as Hitchock, Helen Mirren as his wife Alma Reville, James D’Arcy as Anthony Perkins and Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh.

Miles at one point signed a five-year contract with Hitchcock, starring in the pilot of Alfred Hitchcock Presents, and in The Wrong Man in 1956. Her 1958 pregnancy meant she missed out on the (eventual) Kim Novak role in Vertigo, after which Hitchcock’s attitude towards her cooled. but he still cast her in Psycho in 1960 as Lila Crane, the sister of the ill-fated Janet Leigh character. Miles reprised the role 23 years later for Richard Franklin’s (suprisingly good) Psycho II.

Alfred Hitchcock And The Making Of Psycho is directed by Sacha Jervasi (Anvil!) and written by John McLaughlin (Black Swan), adapted from Stephen Rebello’s book. The film centers on the relationship between Hitchcock and Reville as he tries to get Psycho financed. But that fractious relationship between Miles and the great director should still provide plenty of behind-the-scenes drama for Biel to sink her teeth into, when shooting starts next month.

Director Sacha Gervasi has tapped Scarlett Johansson and James D’Arcy to play “Psycho” stars Janet Leigh and Anthony Perkins in Fox Searchlight’s “Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho.”

Anthony Hopkins will play the iconic director, while Helen Mirren will play his wife, Alma.

Gervasi’s pic follows Hitchcock and his struggles during the filmmaking of the horror classic.

John McLaughlin penned the script. Ivan Reitman, Joe Medjuck and Tom Pollack will produce through their Montecito Picture Company along with Tom Thayer.

Sources tell Variety that “Making of Psycho” has drawn comparisons to “My Week With Marilyn,” and that the role of Janet Leigh could lead to the same awards consideration for Johansson that the Marilyn Monroe role did for Michelle Williams.

Though D’Arcy’s role is smaller compared to his co-stars, it’s still considered a major part given how important Perkins is to the “Psycho” legacy.
