If this ad featuring Scarlett Johansson looks a tad familiar, congratulations! You are a true fashion historian, as well as, most likely, a classic movie fan.
At first blush—yes, we just went there—this ad for Dolce & Gabbana foundation appears to showcase a fresh, natural look. Technically, it does. But look closer, young padawans—note the strong eyebrow, the slightly winged eyelid, the long, blond hair, the mouth that is both smiling and pouting.
Someone—and by someone we mean some Francophile at D&G—just might be trying to channel a bit of Catherine Deneuve into our ScarJo. Not that we’re complaining. Even when she’s just wearing a bed sheet, (and, we presume, a whole lot of foundation), the girl looks fantastic.
SCARLETT FEVER, a pop culture-infused comedy by former New York Magazine blogger Josh Duboff, will receive its world premiere in the 2012 New York International Fringe Festival. Performances begin August 14, 2012 at the Soho Playhouse.
Gracie is a Scarlett Johansson who spends her days fantasizing about the rich and famous. Joey is an Elle Magazine writer who spends his nights fantasizing about the hunky local barista. Worlds collide when an enigmatic stranger enters the picture in this fast-paced comedy by former New York Magazine and Yahoo! Entertainment blogger Josh Duboff. Ashley Rodbro directs the production.
The cast of SCARLETT FEVER will feature Andy Sandberg, the Tony Award-winning producer of Hair and director of The Last Smoker in America, Charles Andrew Callaghan (The Guthrie’s Cat on a Hot Tin Roof), Bill Coyne (DC Capital Fringe’s Superhero Celeb Rehab), Patrick Knighton (FringeNYC’s End’s Eve: The Feast of 2012), Jordy Lievers (Alice vs. Wonderland at the Moscow Art Theater) and Alex Trow (Shakespeare Santa Cruz’s Othello).
Duboff is a 26-year-old writer who has blogged for NY Magazine (Daily Intel/Vulture) and Yahoo! Entertainment. His work has also been featured on The Awl, The Hairpin and Thought Catalog. His personal blog, Text Message in a Bottle, has amassed a readership of thousands and features musings on his life and surroundings in New York City. He is a graduate of Yale University and former news editor of the Yale Daily News.
Rodbro is a director, producer, and stage manager. She conceived and directed an original multimedia variety hour called Beyond the iChatter at Ars Nova. She has also created demos with musical theatre writers Joe Iconis and Jim Yates and played in the band of the Joe Iconis Christmas Spectacular. Equity stage management credits include Shida, Miranda Sings!, Bloodsong of Love, The Wii Plays and Missed Connections for Ars Nova; Seven Minutes in Heaven for Colt Coeur; Jurassic Parq: The Broadway Musical and The Three Times She Knocked at FringeNYC; and Next Thing You Know for CAP 21.
Andy Diaz (Woody Harrelson’s Bullet for Adolph) is the scenic designer. Greg H. Solomon (Prisoner of Love at the 45th Street Theater) is the lighting designer. Shana R. Goldberger (The Gallery Players’ Othello, Hairspray at Cohoes Music Hall) is the costume designer. Becca Doyle (CAP21’s Southern Comfort, FringeNYC’s Lights Rise On Grace) is the production manager.
SCARLETT FEVER will be performed at the Soho Playhouse, located at 15 Vandam Street between Varick Street and Sixth Avenue. The performance schedule is as follows: Tuesday, August 14 at 3:15pm; Friday, August 17 at 7pm; Thursday, August 23 at 6:45pm; Friday, August 24 at 7pm; and Saturday, August 25 at 3pm.

Many know Charlotte Gainsbourg for inheriting and continuing the musical traditions of her famous father, French crooner Serge Gainsbourg. But now her half-brother, Lulu (neé Lucien), is ready to take the mantle, offering a full-length collection of covers with a series of big-name guests — including, as noted above, über-babe and actress/singer Scarlett Johansson.
Lulu’s album, titled From Gainsbourg to Lulu, will be released October 30 on MBM Records and includes appearances by Johnny Depp (with Vanessa Paradis), Iggy Pop, and more. The “Bonnie and Clyde” single can be downloaded today from iTunes.

In Dolce & Gabbana’s ad campaign for their new Perfect Finish Creamy Foundation and Passion Duo Gloss Fusion Lipstick – both hit stores this month – Scarlett Johansson’s striking beauty is amplified by makeup artist Pat McGrath. Here, Scarlett talks about her retro-inspired images.
What did you most enjoy about this latest D&G shoot? How was it different from past shoots for the brand’s beauty collection?
It was like making a little mini movie. Stefano and Domenico had this whole unbelievable story behind the shoot – she lives in Sicily and her husband’s left her and she’s now waiting for her lover. It was all so unbelievably glamorous and Fellini-esque, like they’re making a Bertolucci movie or something. To me that’s fun because it’s a part of playing dress-up.
Did you pick up any application tips or tricks from Pat on set?
Pat does a lot of old school tricks like using the concealer brush around the lips to really highlight the shape of the lip and stuff like that. And she’ll completely finish one eye and then do the other side which, to me, is really interesting because it’s almost like she knows exactly how she wants it to look so she’s able to complete the look on the other side. I don’t know what her theory is on that but it’s brilliant. And I find it does help, when you’re doing eyeliner to totally complete one eye, like, the finishing touch, and then do the other one because then you have a reference, almost.
Do you prefer to play up your eyes, lips or cheekbones? What are you most comfortable applying/doing yourself?
I think it depends on the occasion, but I do think it’s nice to have a pale lip and a smoky eye or perhaps a little flick of eyeliner and a red lip. I like to mix it up depending on what I’m wearing and also what my hair color is!

‘The Beauty Book’ is a hard cover coffee table book with images of your favorite celebrities, musicians and top models. All the monies raised, will go directly to Brain Cancer via two charities called Snog & Headrush. These charitable organizations are non- profit and both rely on donations for research.

On monday, Scarlett hosted a fundraiser for the candidate for mayor of New York, Scott Stringer. She was glowing with that Michael Kors look, so simple but so elegant!
The relationship between the two has something very special, Scarl’s grandmother, Dorothy Sloan, worked for the candidate many years ago, and Scarlett’s brother, Hunter, who also attended the event, is working with Scott in his campaign. You can view some pics in our gallery.

This week, Oxfam Ambassador Actress Scarlett Johansson visited Kenya to see the devastating impact of the drought in East Africa. More than 13 million people are at risk because of a severe drought that has hit parts of Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia. In Somalia, the crisis has escalated to a famine.
She visited the Dadaab refugee camp, where tens of thousands of Somali refugees have arrived:
“The scale of poverty in Dadaab is overwhelming,” said Johansson. “I met countless women like Hawa, a local community leader, who lamented the seemingly endless struggle of the Somali people, as refugees of war and starvation and now left to suffer everyday life with the very barest of essentials.
She also visited the Turkana region of northern Kenya, where communities suffer from chronic droughts that have destroyed their lives and livelihoods.
“This is a longterm and escalating crisis exacerbated by political conflict, famine and drought that can no longer be ignored. Over half the Somalis that have died are children; an entire generation lost. This is no longer an issue that can only garner some attention, some of the time. Extreme action must be taken by the global community now.”
An Oxfam Ambassador since 2004, Scarlett visited the region to see Oxfam’s life-saving work. Oxfam aims to reach 3.5 million people with emergency relief, as well as helping with long-standing threats to livelihoods and building the resilience of the communities where it works.
