J. Ralph confesses to having a major cultural flashback experience while working with the stellar musical lineup he assembled to record songs for a new documentary about autism, “Wretches and Jabberers: And Stories From the Road.”

The remarkably diverse list of participants includes Norah Jones, Scarlett Johansson, Carly Simon, Devendra Banhart, Antony Hegarty, Ben Harper, Vashti Bunyan, Bob Weir, Stephen Stills and Vincent Gallo among many more.

They all signed on to be part of producer-director Gerardine Wurzberg’s film centering on a road trip undertaken by two autistic adult men.

“It was the craziest thing,” said Ralph, the New York singer and songwriter who composed scores for two previous Academy Award-winning documentaries, James Marsh’s “Man on Wire” in 2008 and Louis Psihoyos “The Cove” from last year. Ralph’s work on those projects prompted Wurzberg to seek him out to supply music for her exploration of the isolation and alienation that often accompanies autism.

Thank you, GQ, thank you! The handsome actor Ryan Reynolds is the October cover star and he’s sharing some insights into his very private marriage to Scarlett Johansson.

Ryan’s career is in full swing with big films coming up like Green Lantern and Buried. The 33-year-old actor had to spend two weeks in a coffin to film Buried!

“I’ll never, ever in my life complain on a set again after being on that set,” Ryan tells GQ. “Sixteen, seventeen days of doing that… It was such a state of emotional distress.”

One thing that looks like it would be distressing in Ryan’s life is keeping his marriage to Scarlett as private as possible, but it sounds like he’s got a pretty good handle on it and his life hasn’t changed too much because of it.

“Things change when you get married in general. But in terms of being a couple that’s in a public situation and speculated about and all that nonsense, it’s changed a little bit,” he explains. “I’m a little more guarded, I think. I’m a little bit more wary of having my relationship turning into a soap opera. I’ve just unilaterally not addressed it. That’s kind of been the fail-safe for me.”

But Ryan would argue that they’re not as private about their relationship as you think.

“I think it’s embellished upon. It hasn’t been some covert operation,” the star explains of staying out of the spotlight with Scarlett. “I mean, certainly the wedding was, but I believe anyone should have the right to have a private wedding ceremony. I think if anything’s sacred it should be that. But for the most part — I can only speak for me, as one-half of that relationship — I choose to remain as private as possible without being secretive.”

And to those who think Scarlett’s reference to Ryan as “my Canadian” during her acceptance speech for her Tony Award in June was due to her fear of using the word “husband” in public, well, that’s simply not true.

“No, I think that’s just a cute moment between a husband and wife,” Ryan says. “People can turn it into whatever will sell the story, the magazine. They can say whatever they want to say. That’s fine.”

Some people are just born with Broadway in their blood. Scarlett Johansson is surely such a case, having been born and raised in New York City and having found that her connection to theatre enriches her relationships with contemporaries and collaborators like Hugh Jackman, Jessica Hecht, Liev Schreiber and many more, as well as enriches her experiences as a human being and theatre activist. Besides being in the highest grossing film of the year so far – Iron Man 2 – Scarlett Johansson also managed to win a 2010 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress In A Play, and if those accomplishments just weren’t enough, she was magnanimous and gracious enough to give me forty-five minutes of her highly-prized time. Someone as ravishingly beautiful and quick-witted and eloquent as she is would not be automatically assumed by most to be the best dramatic and comedic actress of her generation – the next Meryl Streep if there ever were any – but, she is. She is. For further proof, see: Lost in Translation, The Prestige, Match Point, Scoop, Vicky Cristina Barcelona & Iron Man 2. Here is a portion of the interview in which we discuss her Broadway baby upbringing and some musical theatre-related anecdotes.

PC: What was it like working with fellow Broadway baby Hugh Jackman in SCOOP & THE PRESTIGE?

SJ: You know, working on SCOOP with Hugh, of course, I was just very fortunate to work with Hugh. He’s just – I mean, we call him the Mayor of Hollywood – he’s just all around amazing. A triple threat: singing, dancing, acting. And unbelievably, ridiculously gorgeous.

PC: Well, you are all of those things, too, so you must be the Mayoress of Hollywood!

SJ. (Laughs.) Thank you. But, he’s just the bee’s knees and I got really lucky to be able to spend a lot of time with him on the set of SCOOP. Of course, we both discovered that we love musicals. I love musicals, I started acting because I wanted to be in a musical. I loved Rodgers & Hammerstein and Cole Porter and Gershwin. We would just spend our whole morning in the hair and make-up trailer singing CAROUSEL and OKLAHOMA! and DAMN YANKEES. Then, you know, we got to work together again on THE PRESTIGE.

Scarlett talks about Iron Man 2 and A View From The Bridge.

‘I feel lucky I’ve been able to jump from genre to genre. It would be unsatisfying doing the same thing again and again and I’m lucky to be able to transform myself in different ways. And it’s been unbelievable to be part of this thing. It’s been a huge experience for me,’ Johansson said in an-email interview.

After her recent release ‘Iron Man 2’, the 25-year-old is happy playing Catherine Carbone in ‘A View From The Bridge’.

‘I never thought I’d be following up ‘Iron Man’ with a little Arthur Miller, but I’ve always kind of worked where the spirit has moved me,’ she said.

In director Jon Favreau’s ‘Iron Man 2’, Johansson plays Natalie Rushman, a demure assistant who hides a shocking secret and later reveals herself as The Black Widow.

“Working with these incredible hair and makeup teams, you go in looking like a schmoe, and you come out like a movie star, you go through the works, and then you’re like this perfectly prepared sausage…no one ever sees what goes in.”

“I’m 25, and for some time I’ve played these characters who are kind of figuring it out, transforming from young girls to young women. I don’t feel like a girl anymore. And I feel like my life and career are on a different path than they had been.”

Gwyneth Paltrow says the gloves have never come off and there’s no such thing as a fight brewing with her Iron Man 2 costar Scarlett Johansson.

“People tell me, ‘Oh you had a fight,’ ” Paltrow tells People of the Internet chatter surrounding the A-list stars. “They’re pitting you against each other and I just think, ‘Why do we need to make a problem between women?’ ”

“I think that’s the part that’s lame,” she adds.

Paltrow, 37, says the truth of the matter is she happens to love Johansson, particularly for her raunchy side.

“I adore Scarlett. I loved having her on set,” Paltrow insists. “She is really funny. She swears a lot. She has a dirty sense of humor. She loves to cook. She’s like a girl after my own heart.”

Scarlett Johansson
loves her curvy body. She said she finds that skinny celebs are not attractive. She never wants to super slim. She said that she doesn’t have to be skinny to sexy.

“You’re never going to see me losing a whole bunch of weight. I’m not anxious to starve myself. For me, it’s not all sexy to be ultra-thin” the actress told monstersandcritics.com.

In order to fit into the cat suit for the movie Iron man, she did weight training, mixed martial arts and hand to hand combat. She says she ate healthier like omelets, turkey and things of that nature. One of her motivators was fitting into the cat suit, she said.

“I was like if I gotta get into that thing, I better start now.”

She wishes she could’ve kept up the training, but once filming was over she lost all motivation saying to the cat suit, “Ta-ta for now. I love you! Hopefully I’ll see you in the future!”

Earlier today I got to attend the Los Angeles press junket for director Jon Favreau’s Iron Man 2.  While some press junkets feature roundtable interviews with the cast, for today’s junket, Paramount gave the domestic press a 35 minute press conference with Robert Downey Jr., Mickey Rourke, director Jon Favreau, Gwyneth Paltrow, Scarlett Johansson, Don Cheadle, screenwriter Justin Thoreaux and the head of Marvel, Kevin Feige.

As you might imagine when you get all these actors together, there was a lot of joking around and laughter.  Since that doesn’t exactly translate well to the written page, after the jump you can either read the transcript or listen to the audio.

As we always do, if you’d like to listen to the audio from today’s press conference, click hereIron Man 2 opens May 7.

Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson enjoyed wearing her skin-tight superhero suit so much in Iron Man 2 that she wanted to keep it home.

The actress who plays undercover spy Natasha Romanoff, also known as Black Widow, in the comic book sequel, had to work out hard to fit into the costume but got so much pleasure from wearing it she didn’t ever want to take it off, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

“One of the biggest motivators was when I first saw the Lycra catsuit. I was like, ‘If I gotta get into that thing, I better start now.’ The challenge was to get in the suit and believe it,” she said.

“I wish I could have kept it afterwards but unfortunately it’s the property of Marvel so, after I took it off for the final time, I said, ‘Ta-ta for now. I love you! Hopefully I’ll see you in the future!’,” she added.

The 25-year-old beauty took on a complex exercise regime and diet plan in order to squeeze into the skin-tight outfit but admitted it had been an “empowering experience”.

“I did a lot of weight training, mixed martial arts and hand-to-hand combat. When you’re working out that much you also have to feed your new body, so you eat in a different way, very clean, lots of omelette, turkey, stuff like that,” she said.

“It’s been an empowering experience which made me feel much stronger than I’ve ever felt before just because I built up so much strength,” she added.

“You’re not going to find me at 4 a.m. hitting up the club, bottle full of bub…Maybe on a rare occasion. But I’ve just never been much of a clubby, nightlife kind of person…I’m not a social butterfly. I’ve never been part of a scandal that was really juicy.”
