Riikka May 18th, 2009 Site News

I wanted to inform the loyal visitors of the site that I have decided to leave the staff of Scarlett-Fan.com.

As you guys know, I have been a fan of Scarlett for many, many years and maintaining the site since 2006 so trust that this is not a decision I made lightly. In fact, I have been thinking about it for a good while. What it comes down to is that I no longer have the time nor motivation to keep it going. The truth is that Scarlett’s career is no longer as interesting to me as it was a few years back. But I will, of course, continue following Scarlett’s career and rooting for her. The site is just too much work for me to run, especially when my heart is not really in it any longer. Mycah has been helping me with updates for a good number of months but she does not have the time to fully take over, and neither do the old owners. I simply do not have the time to maintain the site by myself anymore and I don’t have interest in leaving it sitting around for months without updates; I want the site to continue to be as good as it has been since 2001.

Fear not – the site will not be closing! Lisa of EnchantingAmy.com will be taking over and will, no doubt, do an amazing job as your new webmistress! I’m sure that the site will continue to be well taken care of for many more years to come.

Meanwhile, the forum will stay as it is and will continue to be maintained by myself and the current staffers. I can still also be found at my sites dedicated to Rose McGowan and Amber Heard.

I thank you all for your support, contributions and visits during the past three years. I hope you’ll continue to support the site and give Lisa a warm welcome as the new webmistress here at Scarlett-Fan.com!

Riikka May 4th, 2009 'New York, I Love You'

Some new information from EW.com:

EW has confirmed that Scarlett Johansson’s first directorial effort, a movie short starring Kevin Bacon, has been left on the cutting room floor of the upcoming anthology film New York, I Love You. But, contrary to the many Internet rumors, it’s not because the footage was unwatchable. “It’s not a bad piece at all,” says one insider on the film. “In fact, I quite liked it.”

So why axe Scarlett’s piece? It seems her somber story about an obsessive-compulsive man who only finds peace when he reaches Coney Island and buys a hot dog just didn’t jive with the rest of the shorts. “It’s shot in black and white and there’s very little dialogue or interpersonal relationships,” explains the insider. “It just didn’t work in the context of the movie.”

Unfortunately it appears that the Scarlett directed segment has been cut out from the theatrical version of New York, I Love You. NyPost.com reports – but please take the so-called insider quotes as grain of salt. Early reviews of Scarlett’s segment were positive and we know how Page Six likes to stir up controversy.

Scarlett Johansson’s dream of being a director was dashed on her first try.

Johansson — who’s said in the past she’d prefer to direct rather than act — helmed a segment for the upcoming movie New York, I Love You, a series of intertwined love stories shot by several auteurs, including Brett Ratner and Natalie Portman.

But unfortunately for Johansson, her segment, starring Kevin Bacon and shot in black and white, was deemed “unwatchable,” sources said.

“It was really bad, so it was cut,” one insider told Page Six. Andrei Zvyagintsev’s segment starring Carla Gugino and Goran Visnjic was also cut from the final edit.

But the film’s producer, Emmanuel Benbihy, told us Johansson’s bit ended up in the scrapheap not because it was bad, but because “the story did not specifically involve an interpersonal relationship, and it was conceptualized to be filmed in black and white — both of which were extreme departures from the other films.”

Moet & Chandon, the champagne of cinema, last night (March 24, 2009) introduced its highly-anticipated celebrity spokesperson at its “Tribute to Cinema” gala at London’s Big Sky studio: the effervescent Scarlett Johansson. Always the legendary pioneer, Moet is the very first champagne House to introduce a Hollywood celebrity ambassador, introducing the face of the world’s most loved champagne.

Celebrating among the delighted and glamorous guest list were British and international movie stars and socialites, including Thandie Newton, Joseph Fiennes and Melanie Laurent.

Moet’s “Tribute to Cinema” theme infused every detail of the evening, which was held at London’s Big Sky film studio. British and international celebrities arrived in “red carpet” attire and were elegantly greeted by House President Frederic Cumenal. Following the Moet red carpet tradition from the international film festivals the House supports, celebrities were invited to autograph a Moet & Chandon Nebuchadnezzar, to be auctioned off in direct support of Scarlett’s charity of choice, international aid agency Oxfam and its climate change work.

“Moet and the movies both tell compelling stories and share authentic emotions with the world,” explained Scarlett Johansson, the first Hollywood face of Moet & Chandon. “I am honored to have been chosen as their ambassador and to make history with the brand, as the first celebrity face of champagne!”

Riikka April 14th, 2009 Articles & Interview , News & Rumors

While training for an upcoming film, I’ve come to this conclusion: chin ups are near impossible and lunges suck. There is no magic wand to wave over oneself to look good in a latex catsuit. Eating healthy and getting fit is about commitment, determination, consistency and the dedication to self-preservation. While I’ve never been considered a gym rat, I have, in fact, worked up a sweat in the name of cardio before, and although I enjoy a grilled cheese as much as the next person, I combine the not-so-good foods I crave with an all-around balanced diet.

People come in all shapes and sizes and everyone has the capability to meet their maximum potential. Once filming is completed, I’ll no longer need to rehash the 50 ways to lift a dumbbell, but I’ll commit to working out at least 30 minutes a day and eating a balanced diet of fruit, vegetables and lean proteins. Pull ups, crunches, lunges, squats, jumping jacks, planks, walking, jogging and push ups are all exercises that can be performed without fancy trainers or gym memberships. I’ve realized through this process that no matter how busy my life may be, I feel better when I take a little time to focus on staying active. We can all pledge to have healthy bodies no matter how diverse our lifestyles may be.

Since dedicating myself to getting into “superhero shape,” several articles regarding my weight have been brought to my attention. Claims have been made that I’ve been on a strict workout routine regulated by co-stars, whipped into shape by trainers I’ve never met, eating sprouted grains I can’t pronounce and ultimately losing 14 pounds off my 5’3″ frame. Losing 14 pounds out of necessity in order to live a healthier life is a huge victory. I’m a petite person to begin with, so the idea of my losing this amount of weight is utter lunacy. If I were to lose 14 pounds, I’d have to part with both arms. And a foot. I’m frustrated with the irresponsibility of tabloid media who sell the public ideas about what we should look like and how we should get there.

Riikka March 12th, 2009 Role Rumors

Some more Ironman 2 gossip from DeadlineHollywoodDaily.com:

I’ve already posted my scoop that Mickey Rourke will play the Russian villain in Iron Man 2 in a Marvel Studios deal that started out lowball and went up a lot. Now I’m told that Emily Blunt won’t be in the sequel and Black Widow will now be played by Scarlett Johannson. (Interesting because Scarlett actually screen-tested for the role and didn’t get it.) But I hear that, unlike Mickey’s money, the deal for her is “just the opposite, a terrible deal made by CAA,” one of my insiders says. “It’s as bad as any deal that I’ve heard. It’s lowball money. And it ties her to countless movies, including that ensemble The Avengers, which is what makes this brutal for a lot of actors.” As for Blunt, I’m told she fell out not by choice but only because Fox exercised an option that the studio had from The Devil Wears Prada to make her do the upcoming film starring Jack Black, Gullivers Travels.

Scarlett is featured on the cover of the September Issue of The Hollywood Reporter promoting Jojo Rabbit and Marriage Story.
Before Baumbach launched into his pitch about why he thought Johansson would be perfect for the role opposite Adam Driver, the actress shared what was going on in her marriage. “It totally caught me off guard,” Baumbach says. “I was like, ‘Well, you’re going to either hate this idea or love it. This may be exactly not the headspace you want to be putting yourself in, or maybe it will be healing.’ ” The movie, Marriage Story, turned out to be the latter. “We talked a lot about the actual experience of divorce because I was in the middle of the process,” Johansson says. “We talked about becoming a parent, and our parents. The expectation that comes with being in any kind of a relationship, and the disappointment that can come with that expectation.”
